Irish Pennants by Jeffrey Hardisty

In the summer of 1971, twelve-year-old Phillip Reese is caught in the garage of Pat Lamb, a World War II Marine veteran, and what follows ties the two together.

About the book

In the Marine Corp, an Irish Pennant is an infraction. It means there is an issue that needs to be addressed and corrected.

Pat Lamb is a Marine veteran of World War II. His combat experiences have left him in a shadow of his former self. Phillip Reese is Pat's twelve-year-old neighbor, and has been without his Father since he was six. They both have Irish Pennants in their lives.

It is the summer of nineteen seventy-one. Phillip sneaks into Pats garage one night and Pat catches him. As a punishment, Pat makes Phillip clean-out his garage. In the process, Phillip finds a box which contains among other items, a war medal, a baseball mitt, and an old flashlight. Pat gets very defensive when Phillip asks about these items, and Phillip realizes there is more to Pat then meets the eye.

Pat knows that Phillips is in need of a role-model, knows that he could be of help to the boy, but to do that he must face his Irish Pennants.

About the author

Jeffrey Hardisty is a native Oregonian who's always loved to read and to write. He was the one his fellow co-workers often called upon to write a skit for the company Christmas party. Many times he was told he was in the "wrong business," or that he "missed his calling," so one day he sat down and made a list of all the ideas he had for books. One thing led to another and soon a Detective Fiction novel called "The Terminal Game," was done. Next up was a novel that incorporated many of Jeff's first hand experiences as a boy growing up in Springfield, Oregon. "Irish Pennants" was the end result and after more then two dozen rejections, Jeff enthusiastically signed with Barbara Harris and the Harris Literary Agency.

Jeff is married to Carol, his wife of nineteen years. They live in Oregon with their two teenage children.
