Looney Tunes by Gary Harre

Los Angeles fixer Looney Abbot, a nickname borrowed from the Warner Brothers cartoons, takes the case of an up-and-coming starlet who is being blackmailed over staged photographs.

About the book

"Loonie Abbot, Savage" is painted on my Los Angeles office door. True, I am a bit unorthodox and the nickname Looney, from Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoons, which was offered as a joke, has stuck to me. When all else fails, they come to me to salvage their problems.

Alice Archer called for an appointment. She made it clear that she is an up and coming starlet in Hollywood, as she slipped four photos across my desk. I understood her problem at a glance. Kiddy porn blackmail. The snaps looked staged, but someone had her over a barrel. If your name is linked to kiddy porn in the world of entertainment there is no way to defend yourself, without the kiss of death to your career. I asked an old pal, Swap Meet Linda, for a thumb nail sketch of Alice, and Linda simply stated that Alice and her husband Archie both had talent, but were on the road to destruction.

Alice wanted muscle to get the slime off her back, the twists and clues led me through sniper killings, Topless bar stake outs, stealing a car, being beaten up by a pro, and two millionaires playing bagman for the blackmailers. I thought I had the blackmailer in a checkmate position when Alice's husband is murdered, and Alice's fingerprints are on the gun. A twist I hadn't expected. She is booked for murder, but I know she is not the killer.

Criminal law is a life sized game of "let's make a deal". I made my deal with a petty crook and got the name of the real killer. How do I prove he is the killer? The cops have an open and shut case against Alice Archer, so they are not interested in Fat Willie.

I need an angle to get close to Fat Willie. Even if I get to this spinless slug, how do I gather solid evidence that he is the killer? I made my move and ended up instructing fellow gang members of the Brotherhood.

Willie's boss liked me and sent me on special assignments. Never, even in my wildest dream, did I expect to be involved in the underground torture/pain movie industry, exposed to an extremists terror group who plan to use the Black Plague to obtain their political goal, direct a wake for a local whore, chase a nude dancer through the countryside, and destroy the evidence in a murder trial.

Finally, I got what I had to have on Fat Willie, and it was time to figure a new plan on how I could get free from the gang and continue to breathe. It wasn't easy by the dice came up seven and I made it. For the first time in months I was back to being my old self and no involvement in anybody's business but my own. Alice Archer was released from custody, and the murder case against her dismissed. Everything was Jake... well, for about three weeks. Alice Archer called again from a motel for help. I felt another scandal in the air, but I drove out to the motel. Alice is tough, talented, and could be a great movie talent. When I found her, I found her dead. Swap Meet Linda's words came back to me. "Talent, but on the road to destruction." In spades, Linda ... in spades.

About the author

For over twenty seven years Gary Harre has been writing. Writing legal briefs and lecturing on the law. The coming of silver in my hair, has allowed time to turn to writing on my long time favorite subject, adventure.

Looney Abbot, my main character, is faced with challenges straight out of my criminal client past. Looney runs into two con men that own many farms. That case I documented and turned over to the F.B.I. My characters in the motorcycle gang, the Brotherhood, is based on two clients and is their story with some minor changes, and name changes.

The main fabric of my life, Engineering and Law have been whipped, blended, and poured into my books. I hope you enjoy my recipe.
