Ops Approval by John Hanna
Richard, an ambitious statistician at the Drug Enforcement Agency, is refused a promotion and investigates a Caribbean drug distributor on his own.
About the book
We all know the type. A young, over-zealous and aggressive person who uses anybody and everybody to advance his career. Richard is that type of person, working as a Research Statician for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
Richard develops a case for Operational Approval for the Director of the DEA. The case is rejected and he is vehemently turned down for promotion. Knowing he has developed a sound portfolio for the ruthless and largest drug distributor in the Caribbean, Richard embarks on his own to expose the drug operation and force the mammoth Drug Enforcement Agency to acknowledge his work.
Mis-steps, poor planning and a blind, burning desire to succeed cause Richard to bungle his surveillance and be exposed. A running gun battle erupts, Richard downing a helicopter and killing the crew in a gruesome confrontation.
Now hunted by the Drug Dealer, Fernando Celestine, Richard finds himself also wanted by the DEA. In over his head, hunted by both sides, Richard meets up with Chris Carroll. Chris is a fellow American escaping his past in the United States and living with the local island inhabitants in the Caribbean.
Together these two, accompanied by Leisa, Chris's island girlfriend, develop a plan to gather information about the drug operation and force the manipulative DEA Director to act. Their adventures range from near capture in a violent and tense boat chase, through the wild celebration of Carnival, being trapped in a whore house, to discovering an entire village working for Celestine and his illicit drug operation.
Mixed in with their dilemma is a traitor working for the DEA, a Special Agent who has yielded to the lure of money offered by Celestine. The traitorous Special Agent develops a plan to kill Richard, Chris and Leisa in a final confrontation.
The Drug Dealer and the DEA Director have had a long-standing feud. Previously the Director conducted a sting operation against Celestine, in which Celestine escaped at the expense of his wife's death. Celestine has blamed the Director ever since and vows revenge.
Celestine expands the arrangement with the treacherous Special Agent, who agrees to lure the DEA Director into the murderous trap.
The finale of the adventure is a violent ambush, resulting in the death of members of the group working to expose Celestine. A surprise twist to the story is revealed as the DEA Agency acts to bring the criminals to justice.
