Sheer Madness by Daryl Wood

New York homicide detective Jori Knight is about to transfer to Los Angeles when a brutal murder lands on her desk, then finds a carbon-copy killing in Los Angeles on the same day. A third copycat murder follows in Chicago.

About the book

New York Homicide Detective Jori Knight, a woman with a penchant for homemade peppers, whiskey and a fight, gets assigned to the case of a brutal drowning and strangulation two weeks before she's supposed to transfer to LA. A few weeks later, stymied by the lack of evidence, Jori reluctantly boards the plane to her new life.

However, within days of arriving at the West Los Angeles Police precinct, Jori discovers a carbon copy of the New York murder... and it happened in Los Angeles on the same day, at the same time.

Aided by a colleague at the FBI, Jori learns of a third copy cat murder in Chicago, and gifted with a psychic intuition that plagues her with nightmares, feels a personal connection to the case.

Pursuing clues of religious cults, jealous boyfriends, enraged brothers and ex-lovers, six more murders occur before Jori thinks she understands what happened, believing one of their suspects has multiple personalities and ordered the murders of the women to kill the image of his abusive mother. But after further investigation, Jori discovers that the suspect is one of a set of triplets, orphaned when the mother tried to drown them, then killed their father and committed suicide.

Through a complex scheme, Jori lures the triplets to Chicago under the guise of helping the police resolve the murders. The three men are taken into custody, charged with murder.
