Daniels' Den by Larry Reimer

An ecclesiastical investigation agency in St. Augustine, Florida, looks into a minister's misconduct with a young woman in his church and finds a pattern in his earlier parish.

About the book

Daniels' Den, set in St. Augustine, Florida, tells the story of an ecclesiastical private investigation agency exploring the case of Chip Daniels, a dynamic minister who became sexually involved with Daisy Mitchell, a young woman in his church, after her husband was killed in a car crash. The agency is run by a couple, David and Alexandra Reynolds, and the story is told from both a male and female perspective.

Is the perpetrator, Chip Daniels, a wanderer, caught up in this single incident, or a predator with a pattern of sexual misconduct from his previous parish? David and Alexandra travel to Chip Daniels' previous church in Eastport, Massachusetts and unearth a trail of Daniels' concealed sexual escapades.

As the case expands it becomes clear that Chip Daniels has blackmailed bishops, and the bishops in turn have blackmailed each other, to subvert the truth. Alexandra is assaulted and her college son is almost killed in a suspicious car crash. Chip Daniels' victim, Daisy Mitchell, attempts suicide.

David and Alexandra pursue the case, even after they are officially relieved of their responsibilities. The denomination gives Daniels a minor reprimand, and it looks as if he will get away with everything. But then police apprehend a suspect in the death of Daisy Mitchell's husband, who discloses information leading to the Bishop of Florida. Daniels wife finally supplies the missing link putting him at the center of the conspiracy.

One man's sexual misconduct threatens lives and compromises a whole denomination.
