The Marines of 8th and I by Terry Shows
At the Marine Corps' oldest post on Capitol Hill, elite ceremonial Marines live under pressure to be perfect and spend their off-duty hours recklessly. A young man learns what it means to be a Marine.
About the book
Hidden among the well-kept row houses of Capitol Hill is the Marine Corps' oldest post. The old brick buildings house elite ceremonial units, the Corps' poster boys, who preserve its honor and traditions. The pressures of perfection are intense and to escape the oppressiveness, the Marines spend off duty hours living extraordinarily reckless lives.
"The Marines of 8th and I," contrasts the regimentation with the recklessness and tells the story of a young man who learns what it really means to be a Marine.
