Spindley Baker by Steve Hunter
Two Ozark hillbilly children hustle their way into business and, over forty years and eighteen swindles, make and lose millions before fleecing the federal government and three corporations.
About the book
Two mischievous Ozark hillbilly children are desperate to leave behind the bleak, dismal existence that has plagued their families for generations in the hills of southern Missouri.
However, lacking any skills or formal education they rely on their beguiling personalities to build the next egg, they need to hustle their way into the world of legitimate business.
During the ensuing forty-plus years, they travel the globe facing failure after each success. Along with two additional rouges recruited during their travels and through eighteen varied, amusing and creative swindles, they make and lose millions.
Amid their escapades, they offer lively and thought-provoking insights into many contemporary issues: health food, television evangelists, faith healers, media, government, big business, politicians, stock brokers, sweepstakes mania and environmental extremists.
Ultimately, they successfully fleece the federal government and three of the world's largest corporations out of one billion dollars.
