Snake River Secret by Maureen Meehan Aplin

Jackson Hole attorneys Mary MacIntosh and Harry Harrison search for their missing legal secretary, and the trail runs down the Class V rapids of the Snake River.

About the book

When prominent Jackson Hole attorneys Mary MacIntosh and Harry Harrison realize that their legal secretary, Lela is missing, they race to her ransacked apartment and discover a large blood stain on the carpet and a wad of cash hidden in her lingerie drawer. Frantic to find her, they agree to accompany Lela's father, Chief Ed Washakie Duran, to his Native American sweat lodge in hope that this sacred chanting ceremony might produce visions of Lela's living spirit. Chief Duran's bizarre visions expose two clues: the Snake River and Harry's son, John.

Desperate to clear John's name from any involvement in Lela's disappearance, Harry and "Mac" embark on a frantic white water search down the torrents of Class V Snake River rapids, only to discover her lifeless remains concealed in the crag of a rock outcropping.

When investigators learn that John secretly fathered a child out of wedlock with Lela, coupled with the fact that he was the last person known to have seen her alive, he is charged with her murder. Anxious about representing his own son in court, Harry allows his associate, Mac, to defend, uprooting hostility between Harry and his wife, testing his marriage to the limits.
