About the book
Earth loses synchronism with the moon and sun, vaults off into space after freezing over, all inhabitants locked into the ice. After a forty-year journey, earth relocates near another sun, trillions of miles away. The thaw begins.
Twenty percent of the population survives with Chuck Beinden seeing the confusion and fear in the faces of his townspeople. As an astronomer he discovers the movement, reveals his finding to the people, and begins to assemble them into burying the dead and restoring the damage and lost amenities. However, on the third day, Chuck is accidentally killed and his persona assumed by a demon, knowing that this is the perfect vehicle for his scheme. Neither Chuck's wife, nor his young son are aware.
Following Chuck's plans, the demon soon has the townspeople indebted to him. Three surrounding towns vie for his help and succumb to his deliverance. Because of his dedication and astuteness, Chuck is elected their State Representative and sent to a still devastated Washington D.C. In the capital, he begins to perform his miraculous plan for recovery, and the Wizard of D.C. is born. Skeptical of this newest Rep., the president and a small group of doubters consider his sincerity and plan to investigate.
The evil Chuck soon senses something amiss, and reveals himself to the president to deter his interference. President Heston in now fully aware that he is right, and his group gathers more detractors, including a D.C. cop that witnesses Chuck's failure to warn an opposing senator of the immanent danger from a speeding car.
Frustrated by the population's devotion to Chuck, Jimmy Keene, the D.C. cop, grasps the opportunity to immolate him with a flamethrower before thousands of adoring fans as he kicks off his campaign for the presidency. Knowing that no human could survive the holocaust, Chuck disappears before their eyes. But, the demon has an alternative plan in place, a growing progeny of his from a rape.
Chad, big and intelligent at ten, feels a gnawing inside and is made aware of his destiny by the demon. Exercising his innermost need for hate and revenge, Chad kills two of his classmates. Unaware, a girl, nine years his senior and the daughter of the investigating detective, interacts with the boy. Her needs for sex drives her wild when the boy accommodates her as he plans her demise to spite her father.
Trish, Chad's mother, overhears a condemning phone conversation between the girl and her son to meet in a lonely park at night. Arriving early, Trish chases the girl away and takes her place in the shadows. Chad comes on the scene and heads for the darkened figure, spouting vile epithets and how he will kill her after having his way with her. Trish is aghast. This cannot be her son. She reveals herself.
Chad, confused but dedicated to his father's plan, takes Trish to a storehouse outside of town and ties her up. His love for her deters him from killing her till he has time to think. The very next day, his mind made up, Chad still can't kill her by own hand and chooses to use a large machine to ram the structure from the outside, doing what he cannot. But as he leaps from the payloader, after setting its direction, Chad slips beneath the wheels, and is killed as the vehicle veers away, saving her.
Inconsolable after finding out Chad's true nature, Trish buries him outside town. After the first year her visits are infrequent, and only a lone vulture guards his grave.
About the author
I was born in New York City and relocated to New Jersey by my parents at the age of one. At twenty-one I married and was blessed with twin boys and a daughter within several years. We soon purchased our first home in Bayonne New Jersey.
Going through a few jobs, I found what I was looking for in the transportation industry. But, an insatiable appetite to read, write story plots, and learning led me to a BS in Creative Writing and Criminal Justice. Family constraints left little time to pursue having any of my novels published, which was a full time venture.
Hunting and fishing occupied what little time I had left, occasionally taking on hunting and fishing guide work. A love for auto and motorcycle racing, plus flying was squeezed in whenever possible.
I spent six years in politics, where honesty was an illusion, trying to do the right thing nearly impossible. I was convinced that tilting at windmills was not my cup of tea.
All through this I was developing a keen interest in the paranormal. Upon a friend's suggestion, we formed a study group to investigate such matters, purely of self-interest. Somewhere along the way, I was introduced to hypnosis and soon became adept at inducing it. As I mentioned that was not on the scientific level. And as we progressed, sci-fi and horror plots seemed to evolve in my mind. I had found my life's ambition.
A few years back, an accident convinced me that I needed to retire; thereby allowing me to write and pursue getting published. The more I wrote the more I was assured that I had finally found my niche.
